the history

podere salicutti gets its name from a stream that marks the south border
of the property. a farm bearing this name is documented in a map already in the
early 1800s, of smaller dimensions than the present one. since then it was added
to twice, the last time between the last years of the 19th century and the first
years of the 20th century.
it is a typical farmhouse built with the stones from the neighbouring fields, with
stables and storage rooms on the ground floor and living quarters on the first floor.
the land and the buildings were bought in 1990 in a state of disrepair. the house
was however inhabited by an elderly couple of peasant farmers who lived in it without
electricity or water, using the old fireplace for their cooking and heating.

in 1992 the work on the land started and the old olive grove was modernised
and enlarged. in 1994 the new vineyard was planted on three different lots. in 1995
the renovation of the buildings was begun. the owner, who was a professional chemist
in rome, moved there permanently in 1997 and became a wine grower driven
by his passion for this land with its beauty and superb produce.
